Introduction To Me

Hello my name is David and I am an avid fan of film. Anyone can say they are a big film fan... actually everyone could say that at one time or another, they have enjoyed watching films. So what makes me different? I love watching films to learn as well as enjoy. In the future, I want to make films so watching as many different styles, genres and types of film as possible is an absolute must.

Rather unsurprisingly then when I was told that for coursework we had the option to develop our own short film, I was quite excited. I have been writing a feature length screenplay for my extended project over the past year; whilst also dabbling in other ideas I've had for films. Writing the screenplay properly and for a marked project has been a lot more difficult then I thought it would be - but I see this as an advantage going into my coursework as I now know what it takes to produce a screenplay and story idea.

Set Text: Slap

Slap (2015) by Nick Rowland What did I enjoy? How brutally honest this film is hurts at times but is so rewarding overall because we get to see the struggles that trans-people go through on a day to day basis. The scene in the toilet stands out in particular where the main characters two best friends seemingly turn against him and are no longer his support systems. I also loved the long shot of the lead walking down the middle of the street. Coupled with the intense music, it shows a change in mood and a gaining of confidence as he doesn't care what other people think and feels truly happy in his appearance. Getting all this from one shot is very impressive and clearly the intent of the filmmaker. What did I find interesting? The ending of this film is open to interpretation about what happens. Why he keeps hitting the man is understandable due to what the character has been through but what happens when the film fades to black is not known. Having the audience left ...
